One of Our Own Makes it Onto Wheel of Fortune!

Last year more than a million people requested the chance to audition for the popular game-show Wheel of Fortune. Less than 600 were selected to appear. One of those lucky letter sleuths was Fantasy Springs Resort Casino’s own Senior Graphic Designer, Dennis Wodzisz.

Wodzisz with a piece off the wheel!

Wodzisz, a self professed Wheel fanatic, says he grew up watching the show with his parents and grandparents and was spellbound when he got selected to compete. “The audition process was rigorous, there were paper tests and practice puzzles, and I even had to demonstrate how I would spin the wheel.” Wodzisz says.

After working for a casino, you would think the bright lights and excitement would help the Palm Springs resident feel at home. Much to the contrary, Wodzisz says, “It all felt very surreal.” He did get a personal well wish from a sweat-suit clad Vanna White, who stopped by the set to say hello on her way to hair and make-up.

While Wodzisz couldn’t let us in on the outcome of the game-show, he could tell us what the biggest surprise of the day was for him. “It blew my mind, how small the wheel was!”

It was a fantastic first weekend of the New Year for Valley resident Ramon M. The landscaper from Indio walked away a huge winner Saturday night.

After earning two qualifying chances to become eligible for the Rolling out the Range Rover Giveaway, Ramon won his biggest jackpot to date. He was given a choice between the car, a 2012 Range Rover Evoque, or a cash prize of 40-thousand-dollars.

Ramon took the cash, saying he and his wife have been down on their luck and it couldn’t have come at a better time. He says he plans to pay bills, take his wife out to dinner, and play some more slots at Fantasy Springs.

Meet Former Heavyweight Champ Larry Holmes

We are going to kickoff 2012 in a big way. Larry Holmes, also know as the “Champ,” who honed his skills working as a sparring partner with impressive fighters such as Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Earnie Shavers and Jimmy Young, will be available for a meet and greet that is open to the public with purchase of a ticket to Golden Boy Boxing on Jan 6, 2012. Holmes earned his Heavyweight Title in 1978 and reigned as the world heavyweight champion for more than seven years. His left jab is considered one of the greatest weapons in the history of sports. He had a comeback in the 1990’s, at an age when most fighters wouldn’t think about returning. During that time, he had 21 wins, 2 of which were for titles.

Tim Esser Rides His Bicycle to Bagdad, AZ

While most of us were sleeping this morning trying our best to delay the early morning ritual that ends with a drive to work, local business man Tim Esser was up and ready to ride a bicycle 270 miles to Bagdad, AZ for charity.

Over the next three days, Tim will be pedaling to raise awareness and support our troops in honor of Veterans Day. Local Marines, heads of military organizations, local police and firefighters along with a crowd of well wishes and other cycling enthusiast all gathered to wish Tim off and accompany him for the first few miles of his ride this morning.

Tim’s ride will be through tough conditions and represents a 4000-foot climb. His efforts will help raise money for the various local military non-profits organizations including the American Legion, AmVets, C.V.S.P.I.N, Disabled Veterans of America, Jewish War Veterans, Palm Springs USO, Salvation Army, Soldier’s Organized Services (SOS), US Score, Veteran's Easy Access Project (VEAP), Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wounded Warriors along with others.

We wish Tim the best and a safe journey on his ride.

Mannheim Steamroller came onto the music scene in 1975 in a way its name does not connote. Accounts say that founder, Chip Davis, found getting distribution difficult from any of the major music labels so he started his own. Golfers have until Sunday, October 2nd to take advantage of the $39 course fee at Eagle Falls. Anyone can play 18-holes of championship golf Monday through Thursday for just $39. Eagle Falls is an 18 hole, par 72 championship course. Completed in 2006, it was designed by famed golf course architect Clive Clark. The course measures 6,715 yards and has an SCGA and USGA course rating of 72.8 with a slope of 133. Eagle Falls features many long and wide fairways, though many areas pose distinct challenges for golfers of every skill level. Mounds, pot bunkers and even one hole that’s an exact replica of the “Postage Stamp,” the famed eighth hole at the famous Royal Troon Golf Course in Scotland, await players. Many golfers comment that the course vistas are breathtaking as the area is surrounded by mountains and the greens themselves are home to varieties of wildflowers and desert wildlife. Sweet "16" Strikes for Lucky Indio Lady

Some people say the number seven is lucky when in comes to gambling. In many cultures, the number eight is a preferred numeral. For Cheryl T. of Indio, CA, her number is the double digit 16. Cheryl became the 16th of 36 finalists to qualify to score an extreme electronics prize package worth more than $15,000.00.

Saturday night, August 20th, each contestant was called to the game stage to select a two gigabyte flash drive at random from an oversized, metal bowl. The portable storage devices bore numbers on them which corresponded to the numbers on the giant prize wheel. The game’s emcee gave the wheel a big spin, causing all 36 contestants to wait in eager anticipation, if even only for a minute. When the wheel landed, a big yell came from the crowd of about 250 people gathered for the event. Cheryl had selected the #16 flash drive, and rounding out the lucky number trifecta, the “16” space is where the prize wheel came to stop. Cheryl made her way to the stage, smiling the whole way. She smiled even bigger when she found out all the high ticket electronics of which she instantly became the owner.

Cheryl took home a Sharp 60” LED television, a Bose Lifestyle T20 Home Theater System, a 16” Apple MacBook Pro, an Apple 27” iMac with Epson Artisan 835 printer, a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 3 Headphones, a Sony full HD 3D Camcorder, an arcade Ms. Pac Man retro video game, a Funpop Popper Cart with accessories, a Bose System for a computer, and $1,000 Best Buy gift card. She said she plans on buying a Kindle with the Best Buy gift card. Incidentally, a Kindle was one of the weekly promotion prizes that had eluded her. The HD 3D 55” television is the first flat screen TV she’s ever owned. The Ms. Pac Man machine can be set to play either for free or for a charge. She joked about setting it up to play with quarters to charge her girlfriends to play on it.

Hundreds of people gathered inside Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and crowded around the game stage on Saturday night, July 9th. At question, who would win the brand new, 328i BMW the resort/casino was giving away that night. Finalist Carmen Alvidrez of Palm Desert had a big need for a new car, and she had a good feeling about the competition that night.

Each of the 42 finalists approached the game stage and chose a keychain at random. Each keychain bore a number on it, corresponding to the numbers on the giant prize wheel on the stage.

As the game’s emcee spun the prize wheel, each contestant clutched their keychain, hoping luck would stop on his or her number.

The wheel click through to the No. 20 spot and a big shriek came from Carmen Alvidrez. “I’m speechless!” she exclaimed. “I can’t believe it. I am so happy, I could cry.” Carmen said the biggest thing she ever won was a $4,000 jackpot at Fantasy Springs a few years ago. Carmen drove home from Fantasy Springs in the brand new, $45,000 luxury car, but she said she will give the car to her daughter. “She works so hard and needs a reliable car,” explained Carmen. Her daughter manages a local medical clinic and according to Carmen, needs to drive to San Diego twice a month for her job. The BMW will still be in the family so Carmen said she will be able to drive it once in a while.

Santana Show Should Be A Sell Out!

Nearly 175 people lined up outside the Fantasy Springs Special Events Center on Friday morning, July 8th. All of them, anxiously awaiting the on sale time of 10am for tickets to see Santana on September 30, 2011.

The first few people in line arrived at 3pm the previous day, enduring 110+ degree heat and monsoon induced humidity. Hope they got good seats!

LIVE at LIT Big Band & Jazz Show Raises More than $5,000 for Charity

Jazz Singer and pianist Yve Evans, Singer and dancer Paul MacKey and Guitarist and vocalist Brian Nova donated their time to put on a popular performance of big band and jazz standards. More than 160 people came to enjoy the show, which included a gourmet buffet. All proceeds raised from the event go directly to the Well in the Desert, a local Palm Springs charity that feeds more than 5,000 people a month.

The next Live at LIT show is August 11th at 7pm at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.

Independence Day weekend will get off to an explosive start at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California on Friday, July 1, when two of boxing’s rising stars - Frankie Gomez and Randy Caballero - enter the ring in a quest to keep their unbeaten records intact against upset-minded foes.

It’s hard to believe, but 19-year-old Frankie Gomez (9-0, 7 KO’s) is already entering his second year as a professional boxer. Treating himself to some time at a Pot ‘O Gold $0.01 game, Carl says he won some and then lost some money as he played over the course of an hour. After that, however, he followed his luck over the rainbow as his machine came up with the winning combination to score Carl the progressive jackpot amount of $15,177.00.

“At first I thought someone else had won because I didn’t realize the jackpot song (coming from the machine) was coming from my game,”

3 HUGE Jackpots Hit at Fantasy Springs in 3 Days!

Three lucky winners in three days have taken home vast sums in winnings from Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. The big wins started on Thursday, May 5th - Cinco de Mayo.

The most recent jackpot was won by Raymond M. of Monrovia, CA (near Pasadena) on a $0.25 Wheel of Fortune Machine. Raymond watched three "wheel" symbols line up across the center of the screen, scoring him the progressive jackpot amount of $163,585.00. The 23-year-old cable installer said, "I'm quitting on Monday," meaning his job. He said the money now allows him to go back to college, study pastoral ministry and follow his dream of becoming a church pastor. He, his brother and his grandfather came to Fantasy Springs on Saturday, May 7th because the brothers often take their elder on outings. Raymond had only been to Fantasy Springs once before and chose the casino because of its buffet, and because he knew it had Wheel of Fortune slot machines.

As he posed for picutres with his big check, others in the casino crowded around Raymond to see how much he won. "I feel like a celebrity or something. All this attention," he said.

Just two days before Raymond's win, two more lucky guys hit the bigtime at Fantasy Springs.

George Hayes, a retiree from Hemet, CA, came into the resort on a desert casino-hopping trip with a friend. Fantasy Springs was their last stop before heading home. George simply walked up to a 1¢ Super Spin Wheel of Fortune® machine and put in $40 or $50. Not long after that, he watched five Wheel of Fortune® symbols line up across the center line and knew it had to mean something big. That “something big” turned out to be $1,127,123.88.

While they have taken home some jackpots in the neighborhood of $1,200 previously, Cinco de Mayo, 2011 was their lucky night. Since bursting onto the mainstream music scene in 2004 with the song “Heaven,” self-described “Texican” rockers Los Lonely Boys have developed a fan base of millions. Los Lobos is a multiple Grammy Award winning American Chicano rock band, influenced heavily by rock and roll, Tex-Mex, country, folk, R&B, blues, soul, and traditional Spanish and Mexican music.

These two musical powerhouse bands perform on the same bill for one very special night at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Saturday, July 30th at 8:00p.m. Mark your calendar now. Los Lonely Boys’ fourth studio album called Rockpango (a Spanglish word that means “rock party”) was released to much anticipation on March 29th. Three brothers from Texas make up the band Los Lonely Boys – Henry, Ringo and Jojo Garza. In 2003, the trio recorded an album at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales recording studio in Austin, Texas, according to the band’s website. “Heaven” was the group’s first single from the album and it reached number one on the Adult Contemporary chart, and went on to win them a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The group has gone on to collaborate with the legendary Carlos Santana and lend their voices to world issues such as Amnesty International’s Campaign to Save Darfur.

Los Lobos has been performing and releasing albums since the mid-1970s. The band’s first critically acclaimed album came in 1984, “How Will the Wolf Survive,” produced by T-Bone Burnett. Los Lobos worked with Burnett on their next album, “By the Light of the Moon,” released in 1987. Los Lobos became a household name upon recording covers of Ritchie Valens for the soundtrack of the movie “La Bamba.” The title track earned Los Lobos a number one hit. The band went on to release 13 more albums, including their most recent, “Tin Can Trust,” in 2010.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 16th – the first night of the 2011 season when the Rock Yard at Fantasy Springs comes back to the Coachella Valley for the summer and fall. The best and most accomplished cover bands in southern California, and the country’s most well known tribute bands take the stage every Saturday night at the Rock Yard. Cover bands kick the music into action starting at 7:00p.m. and play until 9:00p.m. Then the evening’s tribute band plays audience favorites. Tribute bands play songs from favorite rockers including Metallica, ZZ Top, Van Halen, and many more until 10:30p.m. The opening cover band takes over after the tribute bands from 10:30p.m. to midnight. As the Improv Comedy Club at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino draws to a close for the 2011 season, one local charity is able to feed dozens more people because of a special night at the comedy club. On Saturday, March 26th, the Improv at Fantasy Springs welcomed KPSP Local 2’s morning anchor Todd Piro to the stage as a guest comedian. Piro, who said he always wanted to try his hand at comedy, was brought up to the Improv stage during the 8pm and 10pm shows by opening comic, Mike Uryga. Piro told the crowds that their presence at the shows that night was really doing more than helping them to laugh. He explained that a portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales that night was going directly to the FIND Food Bank of the Coachella Valley. The morning anchor then told the story of how his comedy career took a big turn when he did not get a call back audition for a sketch comedy group in college. He said he then applied for an internship with the Conan O’Brien Show for which he was also turned down. He finally landed an internship with Good Morning America, which launched his news career and put comedy on the back burner. Several years later, Piro jumped at the chance to host a night at the Improv at Fantasy Springs, especially since it was for a good cause. The event raised $500 for the FIND Food Bank, and notably, even just one dollar in the hands of the food bank can help to feed a family for weeks. FIND has provided much needed food assistance, nutritional education and basic essential items for 27 years to those in need in Eastern Riverside and Southern San Bernardino. The organization accomplishes this through procuring food through its rescue food program, food donations, local farmers initiative “Farm to Family,” USDA, and corporate food donations. FIND also purchases items at wholesale prices to fulfill our feeding programs such as Desert Kids Summer Feeding Program, Seniors Brown Bag, and Better Eating Better Health Initiative. This food is then distributed through a network of 90 agencies which represent food pantries, after school care, summer children programs, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior programs or adult and children’s agencies.

The Improv Comedy Club season closes out for 2011 on Saturday, April 16th. Three comedians, one headliner and two openers, bring out their big jokes and social commentary to make you laugh during one show at 9:00p.m. on Fridays, and two shows at 8:00p.m. and 10:00p.m. on Saturdays. Cathy Sullivan has been coming to Fantasy Springs for years because it’s her favorite casino. Cathy’s doubly sure of that feeling after a recent, very exciting Saturday night. Cathy, from the town of Brawley, CA, located about an hour south of Fantasy Springs, entered the casino’s “Audi Madness” Grand Prize Giveaway, held during the month of March. During one of the qualifying drawings, Cathy heard her name called on the loudspeaker. That meant she had five minutes to get to the game stage and play for a chance to win the brand new Audi A4. Problem was, Cathy’s driver license had expired and she was awaiting her new one in the mail. Without a valid ID, she could not enter the drawing. For a moment, she thought her hopes of winning the luxury automobile were dashed. Then, she remembered something. She picked up her mail the previous day but had not opened it. The stack of letters was still sitting in the front seat of her car. With the game clock ticking, Cathy ran as fast as she could to her car, grabbed her mail and ran back inside the casino. She made it back to the game stage with seconds to spare. Almost miraculously, she held an envelope from the Department of Motor Vehicles. She ripped it open to reveal her new driver license. You could say this was Cathy’s first jackpot. This made her eligible to come back on Saturday, March 26th for the grand finale and play for the shiny new audi A4. “I thought finding my license like that was a good omen for later,” said Cathy. Her luck did continue through to the Saturday during the grand finale drawing. Cathy and the other contestants vying for the luxury car each picked a keychain at random which bore a number. As the game’s emcee spun the prize wheel filled with numbers corresponding to the numbers on the keychains, the finalists waited with eager anticipation. “Like baby, baby, baby, oh” – The Bieber Fever phenomenon is coming to the Valley. The Rock Yard at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino is going to have a Justin Bieber look-a-like tribute performer on the 4th of July. Despite being Canadian, the tween sensation has certainly become America’s sweetheart. “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Independence Day than with a huge tribute concert to one of the biggest acts today – Justin Bieber,” says Richard Brown of Fantasy Springs.

Lustin Bieber – a 23 year old female from Colorado Springs, CO – is almost a dead ringer for the pop star. She was first discovered via YouTube by Can Beat The Real Thing Entertainment – a company solely dedicated to the creation and promotion of tribute acts. “Lustin” as she is dubbed is a singer and songwriter in her own right, but it just so happens her uncanny looks landed her a gig as playing one of the world’s biggest stars.

Lustin has performed at a few bar mitzvahs and made a few appearances inside clubs – but the July 4th Rock Yard performance will be here first full show performing as Justin Bieber.

When asked about why the decision to go with Bieber and not a rock band – which is the typical type of entertainment you find in the Rock Yard - Brown responded, “We had a Michael Jackson tribute artists perform in the Rock Yard. His music is not rock, but it was definitely one of our biggest nights in the Rock Yard ever. I expect this Justin Bieber act to attract a rather large crowd as well.”

And, although the tween icon is popular primarily amongst those in junior high, the Rock Yard will still maintain its age restrictions - 18 years and up only. This may give some of those genuinely interested in what Bieber Fever is all about a chance at experiencing the phenomenon without hundreds of screaming eleven year olds standing next to them.

Fantasy Springs congratulates a lot of recent jackpot winners at the casino.
Ronald H. from Cathedral City came in to play a $1.00 12 Times Pay slot machine and in near record time – 30 seconds and having put only $3 into the machine – Ronald came away $10,800 richer after the symbols lined up across the center of the screen. The mechanic says he somehow knew luck was with him that day.

Brigitte B. got wild and crazy after winning $7,390 on a $0.05 2 Times Wild & Crazy slot machine. The self-employed lucky lady from Highland says she visits Fantasy Springs about once a month. Just like Ronald, Brigitte scored her big win in short order, about one minute with $20 inserted in her machine. “I guess I’m just lucky,” she says.

Daniel C. from Desert Hot Springs found a good little fantasy in the amount of $5,169 while playing a $0.01 Vegas Fantasy slot machine. He plans on using the win for every day life – “putting $4 gas in my car!”

"LIVE AT LIT" - Performance to Benefit Well in the Desert Food Bank

The all new “Live at LIT” shows at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino begin Thursday, April 14th and continue every other month. These shows feature top entertainers performing to raise money for the Well in the Desert, a local humanitarian organization that feeds, clothes and serves people in need. April 14th at 7:00p.m., the duo of Double Grandé treats the audience at LIT to a very special dueling piano and vocal performance. The pair presents a variety show filled with humor, music and romance crafted around the most popular music of the 20th century, performed by two award-winning artists, Deborah Johnson and Wayland Pickard. Proceeds from these shows go to the Hot Meals Program of the non-profit organization Well in the Desert. Well in the Desert provides meals and nutrition for 5,000 people in the Coachella Valley every month. Relying solely on donations from the community, the organization is able to feed the thousands who come through their doors on a budget of $5,000 per month. Chairman David Roosevelt of the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians recently made a commitment to Well in the Desert to help the charity begin building a reserve fund to better facilitate its day to day operations. As the book closed on the 23rd year of the Frank Sinatra Starkey Hearing Foundation Celebrity Invitational the last week in February, the event so near to Old Blue Eyes’ heart moves one year closer to the quarter-century mark. It is one of the longest running philanthropic golf tournament in the Palm Springs, CA area. Held February 24-26 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and Eagle Falls Golf Course, attendees enjoyed two full days of golf, and rousing parties at night. The tournament provides the majority of fundraising revenue for the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center every year. With Fantasy Springs and the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians underwriting the cost of putting on all of the events associated with the tournament from Thursday through Saturday, the contributions collected are able to go directly to helping those who need it most, the children and families who utilize the services of the Children’s Center.

Known as “Frank’s little party in the desert,” the Frank Sinatra Starkey Hearing Foundation Celebrity Invitational brings out nearly 200 golfers and celebrities. Puerto Rico vs. Mexico Showdown in the Ring

On Friday, April 1, at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, “Little Hands of Steel” gets his shot at revenge in a Puerto Rico vs. Mexico battle that headlines TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate.”

Also appearing will be undefeated local favorite Randy Caballero (8-0) of Coachella.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Eric Morel (43-2, 21 KO’s) was the lightest man on the top pound for pound list during his years reigning over the flyweight division. A world champion from 2000 to 2003, Morel eventually moved up to 115 pounds and ran into Castillo in 2005, losing a 12 round decision in their world title fight. Morel was out of the ring for three years after the bout, but since returning in 2008, he has been unstoppable, winning eight fights in a row, including a February 2010 victory over Gerry Penalosa that earned him the WBO Bantamweight Interim World Title. In his most recent fight, he decisioned Juan Jose Beltran last December. Now the rematch he has been waiting for will come on April 1.

Mexico City’s Martin Castillo (35-4, 18 KO’s), like Morel, was one of the most dominant fighters in the lower weight classes for years, and from 2004 to 2006, he ruled the junior bantamweight division as a champion with a pair of iron fists. He’s now looking to make another run to the top, this time at 118 pounds. Castillo, who has won two of his last three bouts, knows that a win over the streaking Morel will put him right back in the world title picture.

Coachella’s Randy Caballero (8-0, 4 KO’s) is rapidly becoming a fan favorite at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, home to several of his recent fights. That’s not surprising given his all-around boxing ability and his power which has ended four of his bouts in the first round. Fighters Show They're Ready for the Ring

On Monday, February 28th, Golden Boy Promotions Boxers Vicente Escobedo and Randy Caballero showed the media they are ready for Friday’s showdown against separate opponents at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. Speaking to broadcast television affiliates and to newspaper writers, main event contender Vicente Escobedo said, “this feels really good, to be in the main event. I’m ready and I hope my opponent is ready.” He’s fighting Walter Estrada of Colombia in a 10-round lightweight bout.

Randy Caballero, fighting in the co-main event told reporters, “I’m ready and I’m going to put on a good show for everyone.” The Golden Boy Promotions fighter is the hometown hero, hailing from Coachella, CA, and drew large crowds in each of his two previous bouts at Fantasy Springs. Specialty Cocktails to Make "Old Blue Eyes" Proud

If you like a good cocktail, these are for you...just in time for the 23rd Annual Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational golf tournament this February at Fantasy Springs.

Two of the resort’s restaurants are serving up classic cocktails that include some of the chairman of the board’s favorites. Fantasy Springs Beverage Manager and mixologist, Dan Thomas, researched Frank Sinatra’s libation likes and dislikes and introduces a five-drink cocktail menu sure to invoke that old-time swing. The adult beverages, named Gasoline, Frank Sinatra Dry Manhattan, The Chairman and the King of Cocktails, Blue Eyes and Put Your Dreams Away are currently being shaken, stirred or poured straight at The Bistro and POM restaurants at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and will be served through the final day of the Frank Sinatra tournament festivities, Sunday, February 27th. Each cocktail is $12 and meant to be enjoyed, just like Frank himself used to do.

“Gasoline” was a term for alcohol in Sinatra’s day, and more specifically, Frank’s favorite drink, Jack Daniels. Dan Thomas recreates Sinatra’s first choice by pouring two fingers of Jack Daniels over four ice cubes and no more. It is said that Sinatra’s bodyguards would tell bartenders not to try to be his friend by mixing it heavy. Frank described this as a gentleman’s drink.

Old Blue Eyes and his Rat Pack made drinking a thing to do in their day and they made the martini very cool. One of Sinatra’s drinks of choice was the Dry Manhattan. The “Frank Sinatra Dry Manhattan” is a simple drink made with Canadian whiskey, Dry Vermouth and Bitters with a lemon peel. Frank enjoyed a well made Dry Gin Martini with the tiniest drop of Vermouth, served in a cold glass and crowned by two olives. He apparently would only imbibe with this cocktail, called “The Chairman and the King of Cocktails” at Fantasy Springs, before dinner and would never have more than two. “Blue Eyes” was the cocktail of the 2010 Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. Made with Gentleman Jack, Veev Acai, 100th year Grand Marnier, orange juice, mint leaves and a splash of soda, the drink is garnished with two blueberries on a skewer. Blueberries in this creation at Fantasy Springs are marinated in 100th year Grand Marnier.

“Put Your Dreams Away” is the official cocktail of the 2011 Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational at Fantasy Springs Casino. Frank ended each concert with the song, “Put Your Dreams Away.” His favorite color was orange. This smooth cocktail melds Jack Daniels, Orange Curacao and Veev Acai with muddled oranges.

The Frank Sinatra Starkey Hearing Foundation Celebrity Invitational is open to spectators. Since the announcement of the 2011 Coachella Fest artist lineup the evening of Tuesday, January 19th, the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino switchboard has been inundated with calls inquiring about hotel reservations and resort amenities.

As of 12pm Wednesday, January 19th, all of the resort/casino’s hotel rooms with more than one bed were sold out for the dates of the April 15th through 17th. Only 30 rooms of any kind (1 king bed, smoking, non-smoking) remained available. Hotel management anticipates these rooms to be sold out for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Coachella Fest by the end of the day on January 19th.

The Improv Comedy Club is also on its way back to Fantasy Springs for the winter/spring seasons. Michael W. was a long way from home when he scored his recent jackpot at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. The Lincoln, Nebraska resident was traveling in the Palm Springs area for the holidays and decided a stop into Fantasy Springs might be a lucky thing to do. He was right. Michael sat down at a Progressive Blackjack table and began playing for about 30 minutes. He continued to place the minimum bet, plus the $1 progressive side bet. That way, on the chance he was dealt an ace and a king of spades and the dealer also got an ace and king of spade, Michael would stand to win a lot of money. Since this was Michael’s third visit to Fantasy Springs, the charm of the number three worked because Michael revealed an ace and king of spades, along with the dealer. He won the progressive jackpot amount which, at that time, was $14,351.24. “I didn’t know that I won. This is fantastic and an awesome way to start the New Year,” said Nebraska man. He did not have any immediate plans for his winnings, though now he’ll seriously consider making a fourth, and fifth visit to Fantasy Springs.

Santa came a few days early for Steve A. from La Quinta, CA (at the time of his jackpot win). He stopped into Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on December 22nd for an evening of entertainment on the casino floor one last time. He’d be moving out of California the very next day. Steve found a $0.25 Ten Play Video Poker machine he liked and sat down. After only inserting $30 and playing for one minute, Steve hit 4 of a kind – all aces. “I thought, ‘Oh my gosh. I’ve never won anything like this. Wait, how much did I win?’” said Steve. Steve pocketed $10,000, just in time for Christmas and his big move.

Fantasy Springs Team Members Make Needy Children's Holiday Brighter

The team members at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino helped make hundreds of needy children’s holiday season a little brighter. The resort sponsored two separate toy drives, both of which collected a total of nearly 300 toys for children of all ages. Each year, Fantasy Springs Resort Casino partners with the Toys for Tots program and the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, CA. For three weeks in December, employees of the resort/casino were encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to work and deposit it in the Toys for Tots receptacles. Employees brought in enough toys to fill four and one-half collection receptacles. Sgt. Joseph Stewart came to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino to pick up the final batch of toys, which was then distributed to shelters and children’s advocacy programs around the Coachella Valley.

In advance of the resort’s holiday party for all employees and their guests, Fantasy Springs team members were informed they would receive an extra raffle drawing ticket if they brought a new, unwrapped toy to the party. Hundreds of toys collected at the resort’s holiday party were dropped off by the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians to the FIND Food Bank in Indio, CA. Food bank volunteers gave away the toys to underprivileged children who ate holiday meals at their facility.

Every keychain was tagged with a number that corresponded to a space on the giant prize wheel. As the emcee gave the wheel a big spin, the 24 finalists watched the numbers go around with eager anticipation. The wheel came to rest on space 19, the same number keychain belonging to Eugenia Arellano of Indio, CA. “I’ve never won a jackpot but today I had a good feeling. On my way to the casino, I found a penny and thought it might be lucky,” said the school district secretary. With a shiny new convertible to put in the driveway just in time for the holidays, Eugenia said she plans on enjoying it with friends and family.

The Redondo Beach, CA resident said she had not been to the resort/casino in more than a year and was hoping this visit would be a lucky one. She found the slot machine she liked and sat down. Akina Hong has starred in dozens of Chinese television series over the years. She received her break in the burgeoning Chinese show business after appearing as a contestant in the 1997 Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Akina Hong has also been recognized by music critics in her native country. She entertains audiences of all sizes during live shows. She is currently touring the West Coast with stops in the Sacramento, CA area and southern California.

Seen by audiences on television in China since 1974, Ha Yu is one of the country’s most beloved celebrities. Appearing as a character actor on countless television dramas and series, he went on to host a popular variety show, translated to mean “An Evening with the Stars.” Yu has won several awards for his on screen work and has also entered the music world. He tours frequently and is currently appearing on stage with Chinese actress and singer Akina Hong.

CELEBRITY CHEF MARTIN YAN CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING OF JOY

He’s known around the world as “Yan Can Cook” and for one very special night, celebrity chef Martin Yan, plus many other notable guests, celebrated a culturally significant grand opening in the Palm Springs area. November 9th marked the Grand Opening celebration of the newest restaurant at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, JOY Asian Cuisine. This, however, was no ordinary grand opening with a simple champagne toast. The feel of Halloween was in the air at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino as hundreds of people gathered to determine the mystery of who would win the brand new, shiny, black Jaguar XF. One lucky woman dressed for the pre-Halloween occasion and she thinks this just may have given her the edge over the rest of the contestants.

Saturday, October 30th, the resort/casino held its Black Cat Jaguar XF Giveaway. Twenty four contestants had qualified to play for the luxury car in previous drawings that began in mid-September. Those 24 hopeful new car owners made their way to the event stage on that Saturday night. After each person selected a key ring with a number attached to it, the event’s emcee spun the prize wheel. Each space on the wheel indicated a number that corresponded to one of the key chains. With anticipation one could almost feel, everyone at the event stage watched the wheel make rotation after rotation. It finally slowed and came to a stop on number 17. That keychain belonged to Cheryl Thomsen of Indio, CA. She screamed out loud, “oh my gosh!” In total disbelief that she had just won a $70,000 car, Cheryl made her way to the stage. The emcee handed her the car keys and she walked over to check out her new ride. “I wore a Halloween t-shirt and sweater tonight for good luck and I guess it worked,” Cheryl said. A recreational golfer, she said she’s now going to look very good pulling up to the clubhouse in her shiny new Jaguar.

Players at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino now have the chance to win Santa’s Sleigh - a brand new, white BMW 328i convertible - just in time for the December holidays. Guests may swipe their Fantasy Rewards cards at designated kiosks Sunday through Friday through December 10th. Entrants must then come into Fantasy Springs that Saturday to activate their contest entries and to participate in that night’s qualifier drawings. Shakira She-Wolf... or werewolf? We have a spooky image of her.

We love, love, loved having Shakira here. And we love the great photos our photographer took – Go Here for Photos. When looking through them we could not help but notice the way she appeared in one shot versus the next. Two images in particular caught our attention – one made Shakira look incredibly angelic while the next had her appear more devilish in nature.

Being so close to Halloween it sort of reminded us of those paintings inside the Haunted Mansion that change from perfectly fine to ghoulish looking image. We could not resist it and made the photos morph into one another, resembling those very same spooky paintings. We mean no disrespect to Shakira, we love her. Chinese stars of song, television and film Dragon Li and Annabelle Louie are coming to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino for a very special performance on October 24th at 5:00p.m. The “Love in Autumn” concert features traditional Chinese music sung by these two very recognizable celebrities of China. Annabelle Louie has been a star in Hong Kong since the 1980s. She has also produced theme songs for movies and even teaches youngsters to sing. She is perhaps best known in western culture for appearing alongside Jackie Chan in the movie, “Rumble in the Bronx.” Annabelle has recently performed in the San Francisco Bay Area at a major charity fundraiser, at Chinese events in Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada, and in a popular stage musical in Hong Kong.

Dragon Li entered stardom in his home country by chance, however, he has been in the public eye ever since. In the late 1980s, he entered the Chinese singing contest, “Sing Bao Ji Yei.” In the process, he was discovered by a talent manager and later signed with EMI records. His record deal led him to recording several movie and television theme songs including “Superstar (Gui Sing),” “Brave (Nan Ji Han),” and “Confused (Ching Mi).” Li later tried out his acting chops and wound up starring in the television series, “Journey to the West (Si You Gei).”
