JOAN SEBASTIAN, SINGER, COMPOSER, ACTOR COMES TO FANTASY SPRINGS

Joan Sebastian, a popular three time Grammy Award and five time Latin Grammy Award winning Mexican singer and songwriter will perform at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Saturday June 16th. He has composed hundreds of pop songs and has been a regular staple on the top-40 charts in Mexico since his career began in 1977.

Sebastian has been recognized by critics and colleagues for his contribution to the Mexican culture, getting his lyrics performed by prominent Latin artists.
His music is a mixture of Latin pop, ranchera and grupera music. His success is not only found in music but also in his short acting career when he became the main protagonist of a Mexican soap opera.

After leaving a local seminary at the age of 17, the young man started to get involved in popular music, dedicating his first composition, called "Juliantla," to his native town. In 1977, José Manuel Figueroa decided to call himself Joan Sebastian, paying tribute to San Sebastian, where he used to work.

Sebastian’s first disc "El Camino del Amor" sold 127 thousand copies and reached audiences in the United States and South America. Thirty two albums followed, each one more successful than the previous. Sebastian received the prestigious award "Premio Lo Nuestro a la Musica Latina" as recognition of his career. In 2003 he was awarded the Songwriter of the universe Award for the second time. His vast discography spans more than three decades and he remains one of the most famous singers and songwriters Mexico has.

Tickets for Joan Sebastian go on sale Friday, March 23rd for $149, $99, $89, $69 at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, via telephone (800) 827-2946 or online at www.FantasySpringsResort.com.

One of Our Own Makes it Onto Wheel of Fortune!

Last year more than a million people requested the chance to audition for the popular game-show Wheel of Fortune. Less than 600 were selected to appear. One of those lucky letter sleuths was Fantasy Springs Resort Casino’s own Senior Graphic Designer, Dennis Wodzisz.

Wodzisz with a piece off the wheel!

Wodzisz, a self professed Wheel fanatic, says he grew up watching the show with his parents and grandparents and was spellbound when he got selected to compete. “The audition process was rigorous, there were paper tests and practice puzzles, and I even had to demonstrate how I would spin the wheel.” Wodzisz says.

After working for a casino, you would think the bright lights and excitement would help the Palm Springs resident feel at home. Much to the contrary, Wodzisz says, “It all felt very surreal.” He did get a personal well wish from a sweat-suit clad Vanna White, who stopped by the set to say hello on her way to hair and make-up.

While Wodzisz couldn’t let us in on the outcome of the game-show, he could tell us what the biggest surprise of the day was for him. “It blew my mind, how small the wheel was!”

You can catch the Dennis Wodzisz Wheel debut, on Friday, January 27th on KPSP Local 2 at 7 p.m. and view preview clips here

It was a fantastic first weekend of the New Year for Valley resident Ramon M. The landscaper from Indio walked away a huge winner Saturday night.

After earning two qualifying chances to become eligible for the Rolling out the Range Rover Giveaway, Ramon won his biggest jackpot to date. He was given a choice between the car, a 2012 Range Rover Evoque, or a cash prize of 40-thousand-dollars.

Ramon took the cash, saying he and his wife have been down on their luck and it couldn’t have come at a better time. He says he plans to pay bills, take his wife out to dinner, and play some more slots at Fantasy Springs.
